FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL FIVE SPOTSYLVANIA TEAMS TAKE THE FIELD TONIGHT

All five Spotsylvania County high school varsity football teams are scheduled for action tonight, with kickoff at 7 p.m.

Because tonight’s games are still underway, The Spotsylvania Gazette will not publish unverified scores. Final scores will be reported when confirmed.

GAME OF THE WEEK

MASSAPONAX AT CHANCELLOR

Massaponax enters tonight’s game at Chancellor with a 1-2 record. The Panthers opened the season with a 30-26 victory over Courtland before losses to Spotsylvania, 42-20, and Riverbend, 40-25.

Chancellor enters at 0-2. The Chargers lost their opener to Riverbend, 49-0, and fell to Fluvanna County, 58-19, on Sept. 10.

Tonight’s game gives two county programs an opportunity to change the direction of their early seasons.

RIVERBEND VS. ALBEMARLE

Riverbend enters tonight as the county’s only undefeated team at 3-0.

The Bears opened with a 49-0 victory over Chancellor, defeated Forest Park 51-7 and beat Massaponax 40-25 last week.

Riverbend hosts Albemarle tonight at 7 p.m.

SPOTSYLVANIA AT BROOKE POINT

Spotsylvania travels to Brooke Point tonight.

The Knights are 1-1, with a 44-36 loss to Fluvanna County followed by a 42-20 victory over Massaponax.

Brooke Point entered tonight at 2-0.

COURTLAND AT ORANGE COUNTY

Courtland travels to Orange County tonight.

The Cougars enter at 0-2 after two close games. Courtland lost 30-26 to Massaponax in the season opener and 17-14 to Louisa County on Sept. 4.

Courtland returns home next Friday against King George.

FIELD HOCKEY

Riverbend entered Friday with a 7-2 record. The Bears defeated James Monroe 5-0 on Monday and North Stafford 2-1 on Tuesday.

Chancellor entered the week at 5-1 and 4-0 in region play. The Chargers defeated Culpeper County 4-0 Tuesday after an earlier 12-0 victory over Spotsylvania.

VOLLEYBALL

Courtland improved to 4-1 with a 3-0 victory over Eastern View on Tuesday.

Massaponax entered Thursday at 8-4 after falling 3-0 to Colonial Forge on Tuesday.

Riverbend entered Thursday at 6-4 after a 3-0 loss to North Stafford.

Chancellor entered Thursday at 6-3 and 2-1 in region play. Results from Thursday matches had not been posted in the sources reviewed for this edition.
