Question 1 | Public schools

The schools measure accounts for nearly 60% of the total borrowing authority. It covers land acquisition for future schools, construction and equipping of new schools, and additions and renovations at existing buildings. The school division’s plan includes a new elementary school, roof and heating and cooling system replacements, technology upgrades, and new and replacement buses.

Question 2 | Transportation

The transportation bond includes improvements at Route 208 and Smith Station Road, an extension of Germanna Point Drive, and widening portions of Routes 2 and 17. It also covers widening part of Harrison Road with a shared-use path and sidewalk, building a roundabout at Old Plank and Andora roads, and reserving at least $10 million for rural road improvements such as intersection work and new shoulders.

Question 3 | Public safety

The public safety bond includes a fire training and logistics center, a replacement building for live-fire training, and a new fire station near West Catharpin and Pamunkey roads. It also covers more accessible shower and locker room facilities at the Four Mile Fork Fire Station, along with replacement fire trucks, ambulances and other emergency equipment.

Question 4 | Environmental and solid waste

The solid waste bond includes closing landfill cells, adding permitted disposal capacity at the Livingston Landfill, and recovering space in an older landfill area. It also covers improvements at the county convenience centers residents use to drop off household waste and recyclables.

Tuesday’s vote set the maximum the county can borrow for each category. The timing of bond sales and construction will determine when residents see the projects move forward.

The four outcomes are based on unofficial reporting. The Gazette has yet to verify the individual yes and no vote totals.
