Governor-Elect Spanberger: “When Rural Virginia Succeeds, All of Virginia Succeeds”

RICHMOND, Va. — Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger — a former Member of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee — yesterday joined farmers, producers, and leaders from across Virginia at the Virginia Agribusiness Council’s 54th Annual Legislative Appreciation Banquet.

During the event, Spanberger made clear that her administration will work tirelessly to help Virginia’s farmers, producers, and rural communities thrive by lowering costs, expanding markets, and investing in essential modern infrastructure.

“As I travel around the Commonwealth, one thing comes up over and over again: everything costs too much. The cost of healthcare. The cost of housing. The cost of energy. These pressures are real — and they hit rural communities especially hard,” said Spanberger. “That is why my administration will fight to lower costs for Virginia families.”

“You cannot run a modern farm without reliable internet access. You cannot grow a business without clean water. You cannot get your products to market without roads that can handle the load,” continued Spanberger. “My administration will invest in these priorities — because when rural Virginia succeeds, all of Virginia succeeds.”

Spanberger also made clear that her administration will work tirelessly to create a stable and growing business environment to make sure Virginia’s farmers and producers can thrive.

“I don’t need to tell you that there is a great deal of uncertainty coming out of Washington right now. And our farmers and foresters are feeling it,” said Spanberger. “But here is what I can do: I can ensure that Virginia is a stable, predictable place to do business. I can help our producers expand their reach — domestically and internationally. And I can make sure that we are productive partners to everyone in this room — and to Virginia agriculture as a whole. If Washington is going to be a burden for you, we want to be a counterweight.”
