Edwin Washington Project - Historical research volunteer opportunities available

This post expresses the views and opinions of the author(s) and not necessarily that of The Spotsylvania Gazette management or staff.

Do you want the opportunity to do historical research?   The Edwin Washington Project in Loudoun County Virginia has volunteer opportunities to uncover the history of segregation during the Jim Crow Era (1870-1968) through its digital archive of school documents.  The Edwin Washington Project began when Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) recovered thousands of lost records covering the time period from 1864 to 1968 that were almost burned. The EWP is seeking to archive and preserve these previously lost records and make them available for study and interpretation of the educational system during a pivotal time.  Currently, I am cataloging the white petitions as part of a larger petition project which includes petitions by African American parents to demand better educational conditions and facilities during the Jim Crow segregation period.  If you are interested, you can contact me by replying to this post.
