SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY SPORTS

Friday Night Football Takes Center Stage

All five Spotsylvania County public high schools are scheduled for varsity football action Friday, Oct. 2, with one all-county matchup highlighting the night.

Kickoff for each game is scheduled for 7 p.m.

GAME OF THE WEEK: COURTLAND AT CHANCELLOR

Courtland travels to Chancellor for a Battlefield District matchup Friday night.

The Cougars enter the game 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the region. Courtland has won two straight, including a 35-0 victory over King George last Friday.

Chancellor is 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the region. The Chargers picked up their first victory of the season last week with a 26-19 road win over Caroline.

With both teams unbeaten in Battlefield District play, Friday’s game gives one of the county rivals an opportunity to take another early step in the district race.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Chancellor High School.

MASSONPONAX AT MOUNTAIN VIEW

Massaponax travels to Mountain View on Friday.

The Panthers are 3-2 overall and have won two straight games. Massaponax defeated Chancellor 37-14 on Sept. 18 before beating Hartwood 55-26 last Friday.

Friday’s game is a Commonwealth District matchup.

Kickoff is 7 p.m.

HARTWOOD AT RIVERBEND

Riverbend returns home Friday to face Hartwood.

The Bears are 4-1 after opening the season with four consecutive victories. Riverbend’s first loss came last Friday in a 35-28 triple-overtime game against Brooke Point.

Riverbend has already posted county victories over Chancellor, 49-0, and Massaponax, 40-25.

Kickoff against Hartwood is scheduled for 7 p.m.

SPOTSYLVANIA AT KING GEORGE

Spotsylvania travels to King George for Battlefield District action.

The Knights enter Friday 1-3 overall. Their victory this season came Sept. 4, when Spotsylvania defeated Massaponax 42-20.

Spotsylvania fell to Culpeper County 28-13 last Friday.

Kickoff at King George is scheduled for 7 p.m.
