COMMUNITY NEWS
SPOTSYLVANIA’S COMMUNITY AT WORK
Some of the most important work in Spotsylvania County happens outside government offices and school buildings. Civic clubs, nonprofit organizations, churches, volunteers and neighborhood groups contribute every week to the quality of life in our community.
The Spotsylvania Gazette wants to make sure those groups have a place in the newspaper.
CLUBS & CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS
Organizations including the Spotsylvania Lions Club, Spotsylvania Courthouse 100 Lions Club, Chancellor Ruritan Club, Lake Anna Rotary Club and other civic groups serve the community through volunteer projects, scholarships, fundraisers, food drives and other local programs.
If your organization has a meeting, project, fundraiser, new officers, award, community-service effort or other news to share, send it to The Gazette.
COUNTY GOVERNMENT & COMMUNITY BOARDS
The Gazette continues to follow the work of the Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors and the county’s boards, commissions and authorities.
That includes the Planning Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, Parks & Recreation Commission, Transportation Committee, Economic Development Authority and other public bodies whose decisions affect life in Spotsylvania County.
We encourage residents to learn about these meetings, attend when they can and stay informed about decisions being made in their community.
AROUND SPOTSYLVANIA
There is always more happening across Spotsylvania than any one newspaper can discover alone.
Libraries, parks and recreation programs, museums, churches, nonprofit organizations, neighborhood groups, fundraisers and community events all have a place on these pages.
Send us your announcements, photographs and story ideas. We especially want to hear about the people doing good work who might otherwise never make the news.
SPOTSYLVANIA COMMUNITY HEROES
Who makes Spotsylvania a better place?
The Spotsylvania Gazette is looking for Community Heroes — teachers, first responders, volunteers, coaches, neighbors, nonprofit workers, veterans, young people and others who quietly make a difference.
Send us the person’s name, a photograph if available, and a few sentences telling us why that person deserves recognition.
SPOTSYLVANIA PHOTO CONTEST
Show us Spotsylvania through your eyes.
Send us your photographs of local scenery, wildlife, historic places, community events, neighborhoods and everyday life around the county.
Selected photographs may be featured in The Spotsylvania Gazette with the photographer’s name and photo credit.
THE SPOTSYLVANIA GAZETTE
CHERISH THE PAST. BUILD THE PRESENT. EXPAND THE FUTURE.
OUR HISTORY. OUR COMMUNITY. OUR TOMORROW.
