Fall Sports Continue Across Spotsylvania as Riverbend Field Hockey Starts Strong

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY — Football may command the Friday-night spotlight, but athletes across Spotsylvania County are already busy on volleyball courts and field-hockey fields as the fall sports season moves into September.
VOLLEYBALL
Louisa County 3, Chancellor 1
Chancellor’s three-match winning streak came to an end Tuesday as Louisa County defeated the Chargers 3-1.
The loss left Chancellor with a 3-3 record. The Chargers had entered the match with momentum following three consecutive victories.
Mountain View 3, Riverbend 0
Riverbend fell to Mountain View in straight sets Monday, Aug. 31.
The 3-0 result continued a challenging opening stretch for the Bears, who are looking to find their footing as the season moves into September.
FIELD HOCKEY
Riverbend has produced one of the strongest starts among Spotsylvania County’s fall teams.
The Bears opened the season with four consecutive victories, including three shutouts in which they outscored their opponents by a combined 35-0.
Riverbend 17, Brooke Point 0
Riverbend delivered an overwhelming performance against Brooke Point on Aug. 27, scoring 17 times while keeping the Black-Hawks off the scoreboard.
Riverbend 13, Colonial Forge 0
Two days earlier, the Bears shut out Colonial Forge 13-0.
Riverbend 3, Courtland 0
Riverbend also earned an early county victory over Courtland, defeating the Cougars 3-0 on Aug. 18.
Those three victories alone gave Riverbend 33 goals without allowing one.
Add a 5-0 season-opening victory over Orange County, and the Bears began the year with four consecutive shutouts and a remarkable 38-0 scoring advantage.
FALL SEASON JUST BEGINNING
Football, volleyball and field hockey are all now underway across Chancellor, Courtland, Massaponax, Riverbend and Spotsylvania high schools.
As September begins, The Spotsylvania Gazette will continue following results from all five county high schools, not just the teams playing under the Friday-night lights.
