Thoughts for International Women’s Day

From the Editors Desk:

To all the women who work to make this county what it is each and everyday thank you. You are all important. We all regardless of gender need the respect and equal pay we deserve. The Bureau of Labor Statistics points out in the second quarter of 2025 men's median weekly earnings were $1,330, while women's were $1,078, which is 81.1% of men's earnings. In Virginia, they go on to say in 2024 women earned 75 cents for every dollar men made. That's $1,118 for women versus $1,483 for men weekly.

The current bills going through the Virginia General Assembly do address pay transparency. Virginia's SB 215 and HB 636 aim to address pay equity by banning wage history inquiries and requiring salary range disclosure in job postings. These measures help create a more transparent hiring policy. According to LIS Senate Bill 215 passed the Senate on February 6, 2026, and is now in the House. House Bill 636 passed the Senate with amendments on March 5, 2026.  Both Bills are up for votes. Please contact your House and or Senate member to get these bills passed.
